Radius Search from a Geographic Coordinate
Our ancestors were mobile and you may find some of your family moved 10, 20, 30, or 50 miles from your ancestral town.
You can search a circular area from the latitude/longitude of your town from a distance of 1 mile to 100 miles.
You can find the latitude and longitude of your town using the
JewishGen Gazetteer.
This radius search allows you to cross the boundaries of
Gubernia and
Wojewodztwa, giving you a more flexible tool than using the Geographical Region restriction.
1. Enter the Latitude and Longitude of your town
(example 5145, 1928 for Lodz).
2. Select a radius of from 1 to 100 miles.
3. Geographical Region should be set to “All Regions”
4. Click Start Search
To search for your surname in a particular town, you must enter the town’s latitude and longitude and then specify a search radius of one mile from that town.
Do not enter 0 miles. If you enter 0, the system will not work!
